The concept behind Self-Styled is simple: each person is asked to choose two outfits - one that represents daywear and a second that represents nightwear. Then, through a dual photographic portrait, author Anthony Lycett encapsulates their distinctive personalities in a stylist-free zone as they are: self-styled. Since embarking on the project in 2008, Anthony has photographed people from all walks of life. His ever-growing body of work provides a fascinating overview of the multifaceted vibrancy of urban cultures and subcultures. BiografÃa del autor Based in London, ANTHONY LYCETT uses photography with a sharp awareness of diversity. He works mainly on portrait series with an almost scientific, methodic approach. The idea behind the Self-Styled project came from Anthony's interest in people who have a unique sense of self, inventive minds and the confidence to express themselves freely. Anthony says, 'My work consists of putting each person in front of a neutral background to isolate them from their own background. That way I can focus on the details of their style and character.' Anthony talks to his subjects, observes how they behave, decrypts their body language and attempts to understand the relationship they have with their own personal style, while seeking out the difference between their interpreted identity and their real being. He feels anything is possible if one looks hard enough.
